Achieving Water Conservation and Quality in NE California: Why Krah USA Pipe Was the Right Choice

Updated: May 14

In the dry landscape of northeast California, the vital need to conserve every drop of irrigation water while simultaneously safeguarding water quality presents a significant challenge. For one Local Resource Conservation District, tackling this head-on led to an innovative infrastructure project with a clear goal: maximize water efficiency and environmental stewardship. Krah USA was proud to play a key role in achieving this vision.

The initial concept of a single pipeline for both water types proved unfeasible due to the volume of urban stormwater runoff. The chosen solution involved a strategic separation: piping the irrigation canal while allowing the existing channel to serve as a natural stormwater treatment system. This approach immediately highlighted the need for a reliable and watertight piping solution for the 2,415-foot irrigation line, and Krah USA's HDPE pipe emerged as the ideal choice.

Our 42-inch corrugated HDPE pipe, featuring a smooth interior and crucial welded joints, was selected to directly address the project's core objectives. As the Program Manager for the engineering group chosen for the project explained, "The Client wanted water-tight joints to conserve water and potentially pressurize the pipe in the future." This emphasis on eliminating leakage was paramount for maximizing the efficiency of the new irrigation infrastructure and safeguarding the conserved water resources – a performance characteristic inherent in Krah USA's welded joint technology.

Beyond the critical need for watertightness, the proven performance and reputation of Krah USA were also key considerations. The Program Manager for the engineering group further noted the positive experience with our pipe, stating, "The KrahUSA pipe performed well during construction and in operation." This reliability is a cornerstone of Krah USA's commitment to providing durable and effective piping solutions for essential infrastructure projects.

Ultimately, Krah USA pipe was chosen for its ability to directly address the primary project goal of water conservation through its watertight welded joint technology. Its proven performance during installation and operation, as highlighted by the engineering program manager, further solidified it as the ideal material for this vital infrastructure upgrade aimed at a more sustainable and efficient water management system in northeast California. We at Krah USA are committed to providing the high-quality products and support necessary for successful projects like this one.
